Twenty years ago few car makers took Kia seriously. Today they’re all wondering how it does it. In fact, the Kia Corporation is one of the great car-making success stories of recent times, with the Korean manufacturer transforming from a pushbike and motorcycle maker in the 1940s to taking over domestic rivals Hyundai in the 1990s and becoming the world’s fifth biggest car making group today.

Kia didn’t arrive in the UK until the 1990s, though, and really much of its incredible transformation has occurred since the mid-2000s. That’s when Kia head-hunted former Audi design boss Peter Schreyer to radically improve its cars’ design and, a while later, former BMW man Albert Biermann to transform how its cars drove.

Today Kia’s transformation is complete, with a line-up of cars to pull on your heart strings but crucially still appeal to the head. Buy a Kia and you’re guaranteed exceptional value for money, generous standard equipment and a seven-year warranty. That warranty is industry-leading, by the way, and proves just how much faith the Koreans have in the cars they produce – talk about putting your money where your mouth is!

There’s no shortage of choice these days either because Kia offers everything from the stylish Picanto supermini right through to crossovers (hello Stonic and Sportage), luxurious high-performance saloons (looking at you Stinger GTS) and the seven-seat Sorento SUV, so there really is something for everyone.

You can choose from petrols and diesels, but Kia’s onboard with the planet-saving agenda too, so you’ll see hybrids, plug-in hybrids and pure electric cars increasingly popping up throughout the Motorpoint network.

And if that seven-year warranty doesn’t swing the deal, how about this: the latest cars are also offered with a free seven years of connected services courtesy of UVO Connect – use your smartphone to locate your car, check the fuel level and whether the doors are locked, that kind of thing. No wonder Kias are so popular.
